Alaa Abu-Hijleh
Alaa Abu-Hijleh is the firm’s principal lawyer. She received her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, where she specialized in Political Science. Subsequently, she earned her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Birmingham and her Masters of Law (LL.M) from Osgoode Hall Law School. As part of her LL.M, Alaa presented her thesis on refugee law titled: ‘Mandatory Military Enlistments: A Case of Inadequate Protections under Refugee Law’.
Alaa was called to the Bar of Ontario in June 2020. Since then, she gained experience working on Immigration and Refugee cases. Alaa appeared before all divisions of the Immigration & Refugee Board (IRB) and represented clients before the Federal Court of Canada. She also has experience in other disciplines, including Wills & Estates and Personal Injury.
Alaa is a member of various associations including: Law Society of Ontario, Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, Women’s Law Association and Toronto Lawyers Association.
